The aim of this webinar is to bring to light the current legal landscape that surrounds evacuation measures, as well as educate organisations and the responsible persons of their liabilities, risks, and obligations when it comes to being prepared to evacuate all.

In 2022, it was identified that there were 14.6M people in the UK who reported a disability, more than 4.8M are in employment, and this figure is rising, for over 70% of people their disabilities are invisible. With current legislations being outdated, change is needed. Evac+Chair conducted a study ‘Risky Business’ with 490 SMEs, which highlighted that awareness and legal responsibility is limited and there is still a lack of clarity around evacuation planning.

The ‘Risky Business’ White Paper is central to a thought-provoking advertising campaign to create awareness, eliminate perceptions, and help everyone understand that not all impairments are visible - ultimately encouraging the able-bodied, to consider that at some time in their life, they too, might need assistance during an emergency evacuation. Therefore, evacuation planning needs reviewing, legislation needs updating and those responsible need educating.

Having a suitable evacuation plan which includes a PEEP (Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan) or a GEEP (Generic Emergency Evacuation Plan) detailing the correct assistive equipment, is of paramount importance. Furthermore, ensuring everyone knows what to do in an emergency, including personnel who are trained to assist in the safe evacuation of everyone from Fire Marshalls to operators of assistive equipment, will ensure the evacuation is successful.
